Dr Asif HUSSAIN

Principal Investigator of Connected Rehabilitation Technology and Assistive Devices

Dr Asif Hussain is CEO of ARTICARES (2018-present), a rehabilitation robotics company focused on designing solutions for the continuum of rehabilitation. Previously, he graduated Summa Cum Laude in Electronics Engineering from the National University of Computer and Emerging Sciences, Pakistan (2005-2009). After which he joined the Bioengineering Department, at Imperial College London, UK as a Research Assistant (2009-2014) and later as a Ph.D. candidate (2010-2014). During this period, he investigated novel methods for quantification of sensorimotor function and rehabilitation of the upper limb using sensor-based solutions. One system from his Ph.D. which offers detailed quantitative assessments of upper-limb motor functions and highly interactive training paradigms is now being commercialised by Tyro Motion - a rehabilitation technology company. Later, in 2014 he joined Robotics Research Centre (School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering) at Nanyang Technological University, Singapore as a Research Fellow (2014-2018).

His main interests during this interval were to understand and develop techniques for the quantification and rehabilitation of sensorimotor deficits in decentralised settings (community, patients’ home). In 2018, he co-founded ARTICARES as a company focused on research, development, and commercialisation of evidence-based, clinically validated rehabilitation technologies.
