Principal Investigator of Mobile Health Interventions

Prof Rob M. van Dam is an epidemiologist and nutrition researcher with a particular interest in determinants of dietary habits and consequences of dietary intakes for cardio-metabolic diseases in Asian settings.

He is Professor, Leader of the Epidemiology Domain, Vice Dean (Academic Affairs), and Principal Investigator of the Singapore Population Health Studies at the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, National University of Singapore. He is also Adjunct Associate Professor at the Department of Nutrition, Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He was trained in Nutrition and Health (MSc, 1998) at Wageningen University and Epidemiology (PhD, 2003) at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam. He previously held faculty positions at the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam and the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health.

His epidemiological research is based on large-scale cohort studies integrating data on reported diet, dietary biomarkers, biomarkers of intermediate pathways, and genetic variation. In addition, he conducts dietary intervention studies, meta-analyses, and studies of the cultural and physical environment as determinants of dietary behaviours. He has published 250 peer reviewed articles that have been cited over 30,000 times.
