Dr Hsiao-ju (Rita) CHENG

Hsiao-ju (Rita) received her Ph.D. in 2020 from the Department of Biomedical Engineering, National University of Singapore (NUS), Singapore. Before joining the FHT, she worked as a Research Fellow in the Multimodal Neuroimaging in Neuropsychiatric Disorders Laboratory, NUS.

She was involved in projects related to functional and structural brain changes associated with motor and cognitive impairment following stroke. Additionally, she also worked on rehabilitation robots targeting post-stroke gait rehabilitation during her Ph.D. During her Masters, she applied robot-assisted therapy combined with neuromuscular electrical stimulation in patients with stroke. She obtained her Bachelor's and Master's degree in Occupational Therapy from the National Taiwan University, Taiwan. She is a licensed occupational therapist in Taiwan.

Research interests

Her research interests lie in the effects and mechanisms of neurorehabilitation. Specifically, how brain reorganizes after receiving novel/innovative technologies using multi-modal neuroimaging techniques and behavioral outcome measures. Also, how such understanding can be leveraged to improve the effectiveness and efficacy of neurorehabilitation.
